Day 18 - Steamboat Springs, CO to Summit County, CO

Had a nice sunset last night, and I took this pic from my campsite just before heading up to Strawberry Park Hot Springs just outside of Steamboat. Their natural hot springs were just the antidote to 17 days on the road.

The soak was relaxing, and after driving back to camp, I promptly went to sleep, which means that I woke up early again. At least today the sun was already up, and because it was chilly, I decided to stay in my sleeping bag for another 30 minutes or so. Plus, I wasn't going very far today.

Turns out that I lied to you all yesterday when I said I was going to go to Aspen. Over breakfast this morning (again at The Shack Cafe in Steamboat: delicious!), I decided to head towards Summit County first before going to Aspen. Here was today's route:

I didn't take to many pictures today because, frankly, the drive wasn't terribly scenic until just before Vail, and then I didn't really feel like pulling over on the interstate to take pics. I pulled into Frisco, CO around noon and checked with the local visitor center for camping options in the area. They gave me a guide, and I ended up choosing the campground that I'd been thinking of anyway (that I knew about from previous trips here). It's a lovely, if somewhat treeless, spot on the shore of Lake Dillon. Here's the view from my campsite, first looking east then west.

I'm going to stay here for a couple of nights, then I'll head over to Aspen. I should have more pics of the area tomorrow.
