Day 1 - Brooklyn, NY to Pittsburgh, PA

So first off, thanks to everyone who came out last night.

Here's the brief background of my trip: I'm moving to California, and I'm taking the entire month of August to drive across the country. I'm going to try to stay on back roads in stead of the interstates as mush as possible. Today was a minor exception to that rule. Because of the general congestion of the NY metro area, I decided to use the freeways to get out.

I left New York a little later than I wanted to because of last minute packing, but I still was able to do everything I wanted to today. Here was today's route:

I stopped in Garrett, PA, the first of two towns named Garrett I will visit on this trip.

Then it was off to Fallingwater, which is an absolute masterpiece of a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. My tour was given by a strange lady, who claimed to discover something new in the house everyday despite giving at least 5 tours per day. I don't believe her. Nevertheless, enjoy some of the photos I took of the outside. We were not allowed to take photos inside, which is a shame because the interior is perhaps even more stunning than the exterior. On the other hand, all the photos I've ever seen of the inside don't really do it justice.

I also drove parts of the Lincoln Highway. Below is the lookout point from Mt. Ararat in the Allegheny Mountains in Pennsylvania along the Lincoln Highway.

Tomorrow, Indiana.
