Day 11 - Glacier National Park & Waterton Lakes National Park (Canada)

Another early morning, but this time on purpose. I needed to get up early to tackle the Going-to-the-Sun Road because the construction and traffic can really slow down the trip and because I was going to Canada! Canada and the U.S. jointly administer their adjacent national parks. While their topography is very similar, the Canadian park has a very different feel. For example, Waterton very much feels like a small town, a year-round community, rather than the seasonal outpost of civilization that any of the places in Glacier National Park. This trip into Canada also marks the first time when I was more hassled by the Canadian customs than the U.S. ones. I guess the beard indicates that I am an American that probably shouldn't be trusted... Here was the route:

This first pic is on the drive to Canada, but I think while still in the U.S.

These pics are of the Canadian park.

After a few hours in Canada, I headed back into Glacier to visit the other main area called Many Glacier. It, like the rest of the park, is spectacular!

And this final pic was on my drive back to the campground. I stopped to check out a swimming hole on McDonald Creek and saw this view.

Tomorrow Yellowstone!

  1. Warmer or colder than swimming in the ocean in Columbia Falls, Maine?
